Board Members (alphabetical order)
Katrina Medjo-Akolo
Upon receiving her MA in International Affairs and Development from Clark Atlanta University, Katrina Medjo-Akono volunteered with the International Electoral Committee in Umtata, South Africa to assist with the 1994 Presidential Elections of Nelson Mandela. Since then, she has dedicated her career/life to assisting children in poverty-stricken areas of Africa. For the past 12 years she has worked on programs to better the lives of children with HIV/AIDS in Africa. Mrs. Medjo-Akono has extensive experience with orphans and vulnerable children and has worked in Senegal, Mali, Gabon, South Africa, Nigeria and now works and lives in Douala, Cameroon.
Lenox S. Dingle, Jr., M.D.
Chairman of the Board
A graduate of Howard University's College of Liberal Arts and its College of Medicine, Dr. Dingle is a recently retired general surgeon who had previously maintained a private practice in Baltimore for more than 20 years. Since medical school he has been concerned with the issue of inadequate health care on the African continent, and in June 2005 he co-founded the ADMProject as an organization dedicated to addressing some of these inadequacies.
Louis King Sangare
Louis King Sangare holds two B.A. degrees, one in Business Finance from the University of Quebec at Hull in Canada and another in Business Management from the Sojourner Douglas College in Baltimore, MD. Mr. Sangare has taken on many projects concerning Africa including volunteering with the United Nations Association. As a member of the UNA he has helped African immigrants adjust to American life, promoted African art, and organized a Global Village to encourage understanding between African-Americans and African immigrants.
Barry A. Smith
Barry Smith graduated from Morgan State University with a bachelor's in electrical engineering and continued his education at the Defense Systems Management College. Mr. Smith has worked with the U.S. Marine Corp and is currently a systems engineer for the Federal Aviation Administration. He also serves as a U.S. delegate to the International Civil Aviation Organization.
Esther Wangari, PhD
Dr. Esther Wangari holds a PhD in International Economics from the New School for Social Research and currently serves as an associate professor of Women's Studies at Towson University. She has received many distinctions for her work including the Henry Welcome Award from the Maryland Commission of Higher Education, a research grant from the National Science Foundation, and a Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Clark University in Worchester. She has also written two books and co-authored eighteen publications addressing issues of African development, women's rights, and the environment.
Janet Yerokun-Olajide, MBA
Janet Yerokun-Olajide graduated from Northeastern University with a bachelor's degress in business adminstration. She currently works as a CFO and has helped many financially troubled organizations by controlling costs and maximizing productivity. Yerokun-Olajide has worked in both the public and private sectors and is happily married with three children.
