World Malaria Day – Friday, April 25, 2008
On Friday, April 25, the African Diaspora Medical Project will commemorate the eighth annual World Malaria Day (originally Africa Malaria Day) by hosting a daylong Open House to increase the public awareness of this deadly disease. Every year, it is estimated that 300 – 500 million (1/2 billion!) people are infected resulting in more than 1 million deaths annually. Ninety percent of fatalities occur in sub-Sahara Africa and 75% of these are in children below the age of five.
We invite the public to join us between 9:00am and 5:00pm to learn more about this scourge. Donations to the organization that day will purchase mosquito nets to protect Africa’s children.
